Jane Guiltinan, ND

Jane Guiltinan, ND,  is dean of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University and a clinical supervisor at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. Dr. Guiltinan served as dean of clinical affairs and clinical medical director. She has been in private practice since 1986 and has been a faculty member of Bastyr University since 1984.

Dr. Guiltinan has a special interest in women’s health and has contributed to several conferences, publications, and research regarding women’s health and other issues. Her roles in this area have included: consultant on a trial on alternative therapies for menopause with Group Health; consultant to the University of Washington School of Medicine on the introduction of CAM curriculum; past peer reviewer for the American Journal of Public Health, Alternative Medicine Review, and Journal of Naturopathic Medicine; and author of “Naturopathic Management of Fibrocystic Breast Disease” for the Journal of Natural Medicine. She has written articles for International Journal of Naturopathic Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine and others.

In describing her personal healing philosophy, Dr. Guiltinan says, "I believe that every individual has inherent healing capacities. My role as a naturopathic physician is to help people understand what is wrong with them, and teach them how to access and use their internal healing capacities, as well as the many healing agents in their environment in order to restore and maintain health and wellness. I believe some of the most powerful healing agents include air, light, water, food, touch, love and laughter."

Dr. Guiltinan is a former member of the board of trustees at Harborview Medical Center, the first naturopathic physician in the country to be elected to a public hospital board. Guiltinan is the past president of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) for which she served as president in 2007 and 2008. In 1995, AANP honored Guiltinan with the Physician of the Year award.

Dr. Guiltinan is currently the principal investigator of an National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) grant to increase the teaching and practice of evidence-based medicine within the naturopathic medical school’s curriculum. She is also currently vice-president of the Association of Accredited Naturopathic Medical Colleges and a member of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians.

Dr. Guiltinan received her ND from Bastyr University and a BS in medical technology from Ohio State University.
