Kathleen King, Ph.D.
Dr. King supervises counseling shifts at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. She also has a private practice in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.
Dr. King's clinical interests include anxiety disorders, women’s issues, trauma/PTSD, relationship/couples concerns and family dynamics. She integrates person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavior, mindfulness-based and relational therapies in her practice.
Dr. King's philosophy of care focuses on building a solid therapeutic relationship that is founded on trust and mutual respect. She believes positive, supportive relationships, in and out of therapy, are essential for good health and healing to occur. She works collaboratively with clients to help them clarify their struggles, identify their strengths, and work toward their goals. Dr. King believes it is also important to treat the whole person and explore all aspects of an individual's life that may be contributing to his/her psychological well-being, including relationships and how they identify themselves, culturally, sexually, spiritually and otherwise.
While attending the University of Washington, Dr. King worked as an applied behavioral analysis therapist for preschool-aged children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She completed two years of graduate work at San Diego State University while while working for AmeriCorps. At Americorps, Dr. King worked with a diverse population of children with limited financial resources in various educational settings. As a doctoral student, she completed her pre-internship at HealthPoint, a community medical clinic that uses a multifield integrative approach to care. She had the opportunity to work with medical doctors, naturopaths, nutritionists and various other health care providers to provide a more holistic treatment approach. Dr. King also was an intern and now is a post-doctoral fellow at Fremont Community Therapy Project, which specializes in working with the LGBTQ population and trauma survivors.
