 Amy FrasieurProvider
Bastyr University and its teaching clinic, Bastyr Center for Natural Health, are pleased to welcome to our faculty Amy Frasieur, MS, RD. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Amy came to Seattle in 2009 to work as a consultant dietitian after earning a master’s degree in nutrition from Oregon State University.
Amy’s position at Bastyr includes two roles: professor and health care provider. She enjoys both immensely and finds that they share an element of teaching. “I love watching students grow and develop their skills over time,” she says. “My goal as a teacher is to engage students in the process of learning, and the greatest reward is to see students graduate and succeed as professionals.”
When it comes to patient-centered health care, she explains that her goal is to assist people in finding creative solutions to nutrition problems, and to facilitate and support meaningful lifestyle changes. “The best part of health care is seeing people improve their health and well-being in order to more fully enjoy their lives,” she says.
Amy joins the Bastyr faculty with 10 years of experience as a registered dietitian, including work in the areas of diabetes, weight management, cancer, dialysis, cardiovascular disease and eating disorders. This spring, Amy will co-coordinate “Weigh to Go,” a nine-week weight management and lifestyle improvement program developed by Bastyr’s nutrition and clinical health psychology faculty. As a faculty supervisor of the program, Amy will work with participants to help them shape healthier bodies and self-images.
“’Weigh to Go’ is unique in that it offers traditional tools for nutrition education, coupled with strong support for behavior change,” Amy says. She points out that this unique approach goes beyond the typical weight-loss program. “Weight management is not only about food or only about emotions, but a unique combination of the two. Our goal at ‘Weigh to Go’ is to support behavior changes that will be useful for a lifetime.”
