Meet the Provider: Katherine Raymer, MD, ND

When Katherine Raymer, MD, ND, graduated from allopathic medical (MD) school in the 1980s, she’d never heard of naturopathic medicine.

However, over the years she developed an interest in natural therapeutics outside of her medical practice, which eventually led her to pursue a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND).

“I thought that naturopathic medicine would be the perfect fit for my changed perspective,” Dr. Raymer says.

Now as a new practitioner and core clinical faculty member at Bastyr Center for Natural Health, Dr. Raymer supervises ND students in Team Care shifts, helping them and their patients understand how body, mind and spirit are intrinsically inseparable.

“I am very grateful for the conventional MD education and training, which is based on categorizing and naming disease entities,” she says. “But in natural medicine, we learn that healing comes from within an individual who is not a disease and who could never be fully understood by just a disease name.”

With special clinical interests in general family practice, and neurological and mental health, Dr. Raymer utilizes multiple treatment modalities, including diet and lifestyle, individual nutrient prescriptions, homeopathy, detoxification and botanicals.
