Would a "detox diet" help you feel better? Most people would probably feel better if they did one, according to Kevin Conroy, ND, a naturopathic medicine clinical supervisor at Bastyr.
"When people do detoxification diets, most people initially feel horrible as the toxins are eliminated," says Dr. Conroy. "But often after only a few weeks, they feel wonderful. They have high energy. Their gastrointestinal and arthritic symptoms are resolved and they have greater mental clarity."

The concept of improving your health through an inner-body cleansing is not new. The idea originates from ancient Chinese, Egyptian and Indian medicine. The detoxification programs that naturopathic medicine professionals have developed, however, are quite different than fasting and should be done under the supervision of a naturopathic physician in order to ensure appropriate detoxification stimulation and support.
