Within a short period of time, the doctors at Bastyr Center for Natural Health diagnosed my daughter Sierra's mystery illness. We still have a long road ahead of us, but Bastyr Center has given Sierra the opportunity to get back to good health.

A few years ago, Sierra began having terrible stomach pain, accompanied by diarrhea, headaches, a sore throat and heartburn. We visited several doctors and even gastrointestinal specialists at a children's hospital, but no one could help Sierra recover from the illness. During this time, she missed almost two months of school. Eventually, a coworker referred us to Bastyr Center for Natural Health and recommended we see Kris Somol, ND. Dr. Somol listened to my concerns about my daughter’s symptoms and ran several tests, including a food allergy test. When we got the results back, we found out Sierra was allergic to wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs and some fruits and vegetables. From this information, Dr. Somol diagnosed Sierra with celiac disease.

Now, after receiving treatment from a naturopathic doctor and a nutritionist at Bastyr Center, Sierra has improved dramatically. While her immune system is still challenged, I see my daughter again participating in school and playing volleyball after months of suffering. She has become more aware of how certain foods will affect her, and we have learned that there are many affordable health food stores that cater to her condition.
