Bastyr Center for Natural Health is instrumental in the direction that integrative medicine is heading. Through the Team Care model at Bastyr Center, patients can receive multiple Chinese medicine therapies and techniques at once, which is not something usually available in a private practice setting. For example, patients can receive Chinese massage, cupping and acupuncture in the same visit.

The effectiveness of acupuncture and Oriental medicine can be astounding. When I was a student at Bastyr, I treated a patient with chronic lower back pain — which is probably the most common singular complaint of patients seen by acupuncturists — and it was resolved after just one visit. I call these “one treatment wonders.” While they are rare, they do occur on occasion. Given the fact that there are no side effects and the results speak for themselves, it is evident that there is something highly beneficial going on.
