At Bastyr Center for Natural Health, the teaching clinic of Bastyr University, we look at the whole person to determine what is causing an illness. We often see chronically ill people for whom the standard medical approach is not working effectively. Yet, in many cases, major treatments are not necessary and just little adjustments help patients feel better. The important thing is to look at the whole health picture and provide a comprehensive, well-rounded approach.

Bastyr Center’s Team Care model, which includes a licensed health care provider and two to three advanced students overseeing patients’ care, works well for patients. Patients receive input from several individuals for their treatment plans. They can also be seen by an individual private practice provider by making an appointment through Practitioner Care.

Patients can access a wide variety of health care modalities (naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and Oriental medicine, short-term mental health counseling, nutrition counseling and more) all in one place. In addition, they can purchase supplements, Chinese herbs, and other natural products at the Bastyr Dispensary and Chinese Herbal Dispensary.

In natural medicine, although the initial focus may be on acute problems, the long-term goal is to have patients experience a lifetime of good health. Through a natural approach to health care, people are often less likely to suffer from recurring conditions or be prone to other health issues.
